A reflection.

"The Career Meet Up Program is a resource students should take advantage of to help them prepare for career success. Career Meet Ups are quick, 30-minute small group sessions focused on specific career and industry topics that are led by career coaches and industry professionals" (UNCC, Career Center)

On Wednesday, I had a wonderful opportunity to meet Ms. Trish Goble, the Director Of Nursing at CaroMont Health (Gastonia, NC 28054). She is also an UNCC alumni, she both got her Master's Degree and Doctor's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

What I learned at the meetup is valuable. Among the stories and personal experiences that Trish shared, I like these following the best:

- Soft skills such as time management, communication, adaptability, critical thinking, balance, and resilience are essential to the workplace.

- Academic performance is important but it's not everything to get a good job.

- Sometimes, life doesn't go as you planned, but life is about plan B, C, D, etc.

- It's never too late to go back to school.

- A good manager is not always a good leader.

- We cannot grow if we continue doing the same things. We will have more chances when we step out of our comfort zone.

Ms. Goble shared her career path, how she moved to new positions and how she managed challenges. Those sharings are inspiring and heartening. And one of the greatest lessons is that self-care is very important, and separating emotions from some particular situations is hard but essential to work in healthcare settings.

I am grateful for the meetup and opportunity to learn from a health professional.
